2020  ‘Potatoes & The Pursuit of Happiness’ won a Sophie Coe Prize Commendation.

2020  To Feast on Us as their Prey: Cannibalism in the Early Modern Atlantic (I contributed a chapter)  received the Association for the Study of Food and Society’s 2020 Book Award.

2018    ‘The Pleasures of Taxonomy: Casta Paintings, Classification and Colonialism’ was awarded the  Douglass Adair Memorial Award.

2017   ‘The Pleasures of Taxonomy: Casta Paintings, Classification and Colonialism’ won the Lester J. Cappon Prize.

2013  –  The Body of the Conquistador received the  Conference on Latin American History’s Bolton-Johnson Prize.

2011  ‘If You Eat Their Food…Diets and Bodies in Early Colonial Spanish America’ was awarded the Awarded the Agricultural History Society’s Wayne D. Rasmussen Award.

2008  The Return of the Native: Indians and Mythmaking in Spanish America received the Conference on Latin American History’s Bolton-Johnson Prize Honorable Mention.

My book Body of the Conquistador won the 2013 Bolton-Johnson Prize for Best Book in English on Latin American History
