Last week I was invited to be a guest on the History of Fresh Produce podcast, hosted by Patrick Kelly and John Paap. We spoke about the how the humble potato came to be a popular crop in Europe (dispelling a few urban myths along the way); how governments came to be interested in people’s diet and nutrition as a way to create a happy and strong state; colonialism, and why the Industrial Revolution was a bad time for the potato in terms of its reputation – amongst many other things! You can listen to the full podcast episode here.

Also on the topic of potatoes, I recently authored an article for Radio Nacional de Colombia, surmising my belief that the potato is the world’s most successful immigrant. You can read the article online (in Spanish) here.
